Introduction:

A good while ago I received a package from the guys at Vass Waders & Rainwear. Inside was the soon to be released VASS HYBRID 700 WADERS. First impressions were that I liked the look and design and I noticed how light they felt in comparison to my old waders. With a promise to feed back on my thoughts later , I set about putting them through their paces!

Before going any further I’ll give you the vital statistics.

They’re available in sizes from uk 6 - uk 13 .

My Review:

The first time I popped them on I was instantly surprised by the lightness and extra movement available. The vast majority of fishing in my area is over low water. This means lots of marching out across mud and sand. Any savings on the weight front are a massive bonus ! I certainly felt the ability to out pace my fishing mate Ian , who was wearing a far heavier wader from another manufacturer.

I spoke to Chris at Vass regarding how surprised I was with the light feel of the waders. Despite it only being a relatively small part being in the lightweight vass-tex 350 material. He explained that it was similar to sprung and unsprung weight distribution similar to what you have in cars. He’s a born salesman and as smooth as they come, but it certainly had me convinced!

The tougher , heavier material covers your bum so there’s still protection where it counts when you’re sitting or clambering around.

Further sessions continued to impress me although I did have some concerns over the extra joints and how they would wear over time. I’ve always been wary of any products that try to offer “the best of both worlds “ . Trying to cover too many bases often leads to a weaker product. However over a year on I’m happy to report there are no leaks and the seams are still going strong.

Honourable Mentions:

Other plus points include -

The waders are very easy to get on and off thanks to the easy access boot.

They roll up nice and small for storage and transportation.

The front pocket is handy for storing little bits and pieces .

The lighter material makes for more comfortable summer fishing without getting overly hot and sweaty.

The lighter top material makes applying extra clothing easy without feeling restricted or uncomfortable.

Conclusion:

To sum up , I’ve been more than happy with these waders. They look great and fit my fishing style perfectly. I’d recommend to any angler looking for extra lightness and movement.

So far I think VASS might just of managed to give us the best of both worlds with these waders !
